a is for...
I chose to sort of learn the alphabet type book with the photos I had scanned previously. Since I’d compiled letters from each scan, I was able to use the typefaces to spell out words for the book. Referencing the imagery I had cut from the scan collection, I also started incorporating this into the visual component of learning the alphabet. The thing about my book however is that it is not really that helpful in learning the alphabet, the typical “a is for…” is subverted and draws a letter comparison to something too complex to illustrate the alphabet for children. This choice was due to the nature of the fonts and imagery. The scanning of the images had made everything come across in very high contrast, and so the figures and lettering already had this darker, rough feeling. I wanted to pull this into my book by subverting the typical picture book style. The book is reminiscent of a random note perhaps. However, I did use a brightly colored theme so as not to bore viewers. By switching up the colors of red, pink, green, yellow and black, viewers aren't going to know exactly what to expect and the imagery will hopefully be less boring!
